“It’s a great feeling and it’s very helpful for people in need during these times,” William, a personal care assistant who lost his job during the pandemic, said, about the support provided by the food pantry at New Life Ministries, in Hempstead, New York, a partner of Long Island Cares Food Bank.
William has been inspired by the way people have been brought together during the pandemic. “You have the homeless that can come here, you have, you know, people that are out of work. It’s like everybody’s mixing together,” he said.
“As long as everybody can still interact with their family and join together and
try to make some sense of normalcy out of this, we can survive and push on and get past the
pandemic,” he said. “That way we’ll be a stronger people.”
